Deathmatch servers are maps beginning with "dm_". However, these are generally not populated. To find a populated server sort the server list by players. Usually somewhere within the top 10 or 15 spots will be a Deathmatch server. You will have to look at the server name. Usually they will say something like "24/7 Dust2 Deathmatch" or "24/7 Office DM" (Dust2 and Office are the map names. "DM" is short for Deathmatch.) These servers are exactly what they sound like. You kill people. That's it. No objective. They are good for learning because you spawn over and over and over in a round. There are no one life rules. Also, you don't have to use money to buy weapons. You get to choose what weapon you want. DM servers offer good practice on all weapons.

In Counter-Strike, players are either automatically paired with the best public, Valve-hosted server with the lowest ping rate, or they can manually choose one. Helpfully, the CS 1.6 client shows players a list of available servers along with their ping rates. The trojan takes advantage of this to lure in victims.

Clearly, though, the bug fell through the cracks. The OpenSSH team showsits annoyance in the release notes:We apologise for any inconvenience resulting from this releasebeing made so shortly after 4.9. Unfortunately we only learned ofthe below security issue from the public CVE report. The DebianOpenSSH maintainers responsible for handling the initial report ofthis bug failed to report it via either the private OpenSSH securitycontact list (openssh@openssh.com) or the portable OpenSSH Bugzilla( ).

I think it's less work for a downstream maintainer to send an email to the upstream maintainer than to maintain the patch in such a way that "pull" works. And looking at the total effort by everyone, I'm sure the email is considerably less work. But probably less reliable.I sometimes get pointed to lists of downstream patches for packages I maintain. I find it very hard to glean defect information from them. One of the reasons is the open source tradition of not documenting beyond the code itself. It often takes quite a bit of effort to figure out what the point of a patch is. OTOH, when people email me patches, they almost always include a nice explanation. What about pulling changes from downstream ? Posted Apr 12, 2008 19:21 UTC (Sat) by boklm (guest, #34568) [Link]

That's because you imagine a different battle from the one I'm really fighting. I'm not trying to get everyone to call X by its right name.My primary goal in pointing out misnomers like this is to correct the record -- I don't want the archive to stand forever as an uncontradicted example of the correct appelation of this window system. My secondary goal is to inform readers of these comments who would like to call X by its right name and don't know it, a favor I'm thankful someone did me many years ago. There's a good chance there are some people like that listening. OpenSSH bug falls through the cracks Posted Apr 11, 2008 0:27 UTC (Fri) by tialaramex (subscriber, #21167) [Link]
